Business Branding: Custom Twitter Profile Header and Background Image Design

New uplifting Twitter bird logo designThe new Twitter design puts your avatar photo and your 160-character or less Twitter profile bio front and center on your “Me” page.

You want to make sure you utilize that space appropriately. The design should match current brand and other design elements.

Do you have a custom Twitter background image or unique Facebook cover photo design? (I hope so.) Now the Twitter profile header design is one more space you can — and should — customize.

How to Upload Your New Twitter Header Image

First, visit your profile page that’s labeled “Me.” Then, click Settings in the little gear icon menu, which is located on the upper right of the page.

Select Design on the left-hand navigation menu and scoll down to Customize your own sub header. This is where you can upload your own images of the background image and new header image.

After uploading your custom image, you will need to scale it. The original upload size needs to be 1252×626 pixels or less. Anything less than 640 pixels will probably be blurry/pixelated and look less than great.

To fix any sizing problems before you start, simply download my template for your perfect Twitter profile header design. You will have a perfect image size to upload and you will not have to worry about any special fitting of the image.

Extra Custom-Designed Features for Your Twitter Profile

While you are updating your Twitter profile to match your brand (in the same Design section you uploaded your profile header image), you can now upload a custom background image and set it to be centered or aligned right. Originally, Twitter defaulted to a left-aligned background image and you had no control over this setting.

And as a no-brainer little bonus, I always customize text and link color to match existing brand colors, too.

Check out my new twitter profile (screenshot above) with header image and centered background and tell me what you think.

This is terrific information! I haven’t made the change yet as I got my background from a ‘free’ twitter background site many years ago…I believe it downloaded directly to my twitter page…and I just love it!!

Yeah for giving sizes! I think most of us struggle with how big the header should be because it differs on every social media site! (ugh)
Thank you for sharing and looking forward to putting it into practice.
